Mayfield Primary School Eco Champions
CCL North recently had a very special visit from Mayfield Primary School in Saltcoats as part of their Eco Schools programme. The children on the Eco Committee have been doing sterling work helping the environment and our future by championing recycling and waste reduction for their school. They have been recycling their paper, cardboard, aluminium cans and other materials, as well as helping to inform others as part of a new generation of recyclers. A visit to CCL North was arranged to let them know about another type of recycling for waste electronic and electrical products (WEEE). This includes items like computers, televisions, home electricals, mobile phones etc., which are processed at our site. The children from primary four through to primary seven got a tour of the facility showing them how the material is collected, segregated and recycled and the many people, tools and processes involved.
It is important that WEEE material is diverted from landfill as it estimated that the average person will dispose of nearly 3.3 tonnes of waste electrical and electronic products in their lifetime, a huge burden on the landfill and waste disposal system as well as the environment.
The trip was a roaring sucess and CCL North would like to thank all of the children who attended and asked such super questions.
