Business secretary Vince Cable has said he will take a 'long hard look' at increasing individual producer responsibility for the recycling of WEEE material produced in the UK.
This is something that producers are responsible for collectively through Producer Compliance Schemes (PCS), however they are not directly responsible for their own products only their market share.
The Green Alliance report published in October stated that "the collective nature of the scheme dilutes the incentive for better design" possibly leading to longer life cycles and easier recyclability.
