WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) is the fastest-growing waste stream worldwide. CCL (North) Ltd. is proud to offer the most comprehensive WEEE recycling service in the UK, allowing our customers to meet their legal obligations to properly dispose of WEEE equipment, whilst going far beyond minimum required standards for environmental protection.
Many WEEE recycling companies focus on high-value equipment that can be easily reused, but at CCL we continually invest in developing new processes and working with customers to ensure maximum reuse and recycling across a broad range of products. Our carefully managed processes ensure we achieve the highest possible recycling rates and that nothing is sent to landfill. We work hard to extend product lifecycles and work within the Circular Economy.
We are fully licenced to collect and process all types of WEEE equipment, including small and large domestic appliances, refrigeration equipment, household and industrial batteries, fluorescent tubes and luminaries and display equipment. We follow stringent data destruction processes to ensure any data is removed before reusing or recycling equipment.

WEEE equipment follows our core process from your enquiry, through collection and data destruction. Once we have completed any necessary data destruction, there are three options for the secure recycling of WEEE equipment, based on user preference and component value.
An estimated five million vapes per week are discarded in the UK. The majority of vapes are currently being disposed of as general waste when they reach end of life, rather than via an approved electrical recycling route. This equates to two single use vapes being binned as general waste every second, resulting in massive amounts going into household waste, street bins or being littered on our pavements, parks and streets! In a recent study around 50% of people surveyed said they didn’t know how to dispose of their vapes properly. Incorrect disposal of vapes can cause a whole host of health & safety and environmental issues.
We want to try and change that!
Recycling vapes is actually pretty easy. We should know, we’ve been recycling them at our Approved Authorised Treatment Facility (AATF) in Irvine, Scotland since 2019.
While vapes are classed as hazardous, they contain lots of valuable and recyclable components. The plastic or metal casings, the wiring, and the lithium battery can all be recycled and put back into the manufacturing cycle. The remaining parts (nicotine tank/filter) are used as fuel in energy from waste facilities, ensuring nothing is sent to landfill.
We work with producers and retailers offering containers for storage of used vapes as part of their take-back offering they are legally obligated to provide, and we collect from HWRC’s across the country every day. So, if you are a member of the public you have options available to safely recycle your vape safe in the knowledge you’re making a positive contribution and helping to preserve finite resources.
If you are manufacturer/producer/retailer/distributor, please feel free to get in touch and we can provide a solution for you and your customers and help promote recycling as the only option for the planet!

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations Act was introduced in the UK in 2007 and amended in 2013. It covers most goods which come with a battery or a plug. The objective is to limit waste, promote a healthy industry standard of recycling, and to incentivise environmentally friendly product development. It is estimated that the UK discards over two million tonnes of WEEE items each year. Often these items comprise a complex assortment of materials, some of which are hazardous. These items carry health risks if they are not dealt with appropriately.

Achieving the highest recycling rates in the industry is no mean feat and takes ongoing commitment and investment, and a willingness to think outside the box. Where other recycling companies may struggle to find customers for some by-products and ultimately send these to landfill, we are fully committed to avoiding this outcome and have established sister companies to build new customers and products for refurbished WEEE equipment and recycled components.
In line with the Circular Economy we have developed our own brand, ReBorn. Our expert repair team achieves reuse on all types of IT equipment and associated assets; televisions, heaters, lawnmowers, Hifi systems, amplifiers, speakers, CD players, DVD players, coffee makers, Xbox, Wii, PlayStation, lamps, telephones, mobile phones, vacuum cleaners, floor steamers, hand tools, drills, fans, test equipment, multimeters, PAT testers, oscilloscopes, Sky boxes, electronic musical keyboards, electronic guitars, sewing machines and more.
Through Restructa, we safely and responsibly recycle all forms of display screens, including CRT, LCD, LED and Plasma screens. We use the glass from the screens to manufacture a reusable decorative aggregate that is approved by SEPA, used by many councils and stocked in over 300 garden centres nationwide. This product has its own website – www.glasglo.co.uk. There is also dust by-product produced from the glass recycling process which we sell to be remanufactured into decorative tiles called SilicaStone.
